SlideShare Releases First Mobile App, Redesigns Its Mobile Web View

Have you ever wanted to save a SlideShare presentation to read later on your mobile device? Or do you ever wonder how your SlideShare uploads appear on mobile devices? SlideShare’s latest updates are bringing the world’s largest collection of presentations to mobile like never before. The site’s first ever native mobile app, a redesigned mobile Web experience and a new mobile preview feature for presentation creators are coming your way.

SlideShare Mobile App

SlideShare’s first mobile app is now available for Android. Just like on SlideShare.net, you can log in with your LinkedIn account, your Facebook or your username or email address. On your first login the app will prompt you to choose categories that interest you, such as technology, business and education, as seen in the screenshot below:

Next, the app will take you to its landing area, the Explore tab. Here scroll through presentations uploaded by users you follow as well as presentations in the categories you chose. Swiping left to right on any presentation will let you view its slides, and clicking on a presentation will let you view it fullscreen as well as allow you to zoom in. Just rotate your phone onto its side for a fullscreen view.

If you find a presentation that interests you, click the heart to easily find it later in the Likes section of your profile, or click the download button to view the presentation offline.

You can also share presentations with friends through SlideShare, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Despite all these options, one thing the SlideShare mobile app doesn’t let you do, is upload presentations. Hopefully, as mobile apps for creating presentations become more robust, we’ll see this feature come to the app in the future!

SlideShare on the Mobile Web

Not every user wants or is able to view SlideShare presentations using the mobile app, and they access SlideShare using the mobile Web instead. In fact, SlideShare mobile views increased 223% last year alone. Because of this, SlideShare’s beefed up its mobile Web experience. Now, mimicking SlideShare’s Android app, mobile Web users can also swipe from slide to slide within a presentation. And when it comes to sharing, Android Web users will be able to share SlideShare presentations via SMS, while iOS users can share using WhatsApp.

Previewing SlideShare Mobile Content

To help content creators produce decks that are mobile friendly, SlideShare now offers a mobile preview when users upload presentations to the site. Rather than allow users to optimize their presentations for mobile, the tool is meant to serve as a reminder that users are using all kinds of devices to view presentations, and yours better be ready.
