Have you ever wished your smartphone was faster? Well, those dreams may become reality semi-soon as Samsung Electronics has just announced today its made a major breakthrough in developing technology for 5G mobile communication systems! These fifth-generation networks will provide data transmission up to several hundred times speedier than current 4G networks. Samsung’s latest technology will allow users to transmit massively large data files including high quality digital movies “practically without limitation.”

samsung 5g quote

5G technology is the next generation of the existing 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, used by devices like Samsung’s Galaxy S4 smartphone, and would be capable of providing a ubiquitous Gbps experience offering data transmission speeds of up to several tens of Gbps per base station.

Samsung has plans to accelerate the research and development of 5G mobile communication technologies, in hopes to commercialize these efforts by 2020.

Samsung’s latest innovation is expected to invigorate research into 5G cellular communications across the world; the company believes it will trigger the creation of international alliances and the timely commercialization of related mobile broadband services.

The future of the mobile landscape look bright, with stiff competition forming worldwide. The Chinese have already established a government-led “IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group” for 5G research back in February 2012, while the European Commission also plans to invest 50 million Euros in 2013 to help bring 5G innovation to the market by 2020.

2020 seems long a long time away, but aren’t you excited about the potential of moving around 100X faster on the mobile web?

  1. While this is great news unfortunately they seem to keep forgetting to work on longer battery life. As the phones get more functions and faster the batteries cant keep up with it, this is only downside to the upgrades.

    1. For sure John, it would be nice to see those self-powered battery technologies come to fruition as well, via solar-power cells or wireless charging.

    2. but how ya need to look at it john is if they work on a 5G phone they can improve battery on those and 4G phones at the same time… cuz 5G is even faster drainer than 4G
