Teen Uses Instagram To Capture Beautiful Food Creations And Make Her Way To Healthy Eating

Almost everyone on Instagram has Instagrammed a picture of food. A gourmet homemade meal, a fancy restaurant dinner and an ice cream cone on a hot day are all staples on the photo-sharing social network. But 15-year-old Gan Chin Lin not only uses Instagram to photograph her beautiful food creations, but also to eat healthy.

Lin had an eating disorder and, to help her along the path to recovery, she began posting pictures of the food she loved onto Instagram. In the Instagram blog, Lin says, “I used my love for food to pull me up and spur me on to a full recovery and now it has evolved into a full blown passion.” She always had a love of art and photography, so merging her passions and turning food into art was a logical move for Lin.

Lin first researched recipes and basic food concepts, and then she adapted them for her own cooking. After gaining valuable experience and knowledge from this approach, she began to create her own recipes. Lin is from Singapore, an ethnic melting pot in Southeast Asia, and her cooking shows Indian, Chinese, European, Malay and other cultural influences. She finds inspiration in combining flavors and spices from different cuisines, all while creating healthy and nutritious food.

Lin’s Instagram bio describes her as an “advocate for a healthy, nourished lifestyle” and that seems perfectly fitting given the struggles she has overcome and the lifestyle she now publicly promotes.

  1. I’d hate to eat any of this — just want to sit & admire it. (Maybe that’s why she lost weight!)
