Yesterday Vine co-founders Dom Hofmann and Rus Yusupov tweeted out three mysterious Vines videos that seem to offer a sneak peak into upcoming features for the app. The Vines are choppy and, rather than explicitly showing us what’s in store for Vine, they whet our appetite for what’s to arrive next on the app.
I’m just making a wild guess here, from looking at these dizzying clips, but it seems like a new interface and fullscreen capabilities could be making their way to Vine. I also see cool new filters like fisheye and pinhole, and piece clips that hint at being able to incorporate past footage, meaning Viners will no longer have to shoot all their footage in the moment. Though the videos may be enigmatic, the intention behind them certainly is not. These Vines were posted the day before Facebook announced video capabilities for Instagram. Vine is preparing to up its game and give its users a reason to stick with Vine. Even before Instagram offered video, Vine still had a lot of catching up to do with Facebook’s photo sharing service; according to GlobalWebIndex, 1% of mobile users have used Vine in the past month, compared to 10% who’ve used Instagram. Vine may be growing faster than Instagram did, but will Vine be able to maintain its growth with Instagram as a direct competitor?
