Snapchats just became a little less fleeting. But just a little. In a blogpost today the picture and video messaging platform introduced Snapchat Stories, a way to share a log of your pictures and videos from the last 24 hours.
Snapchats are photos and videos you can send to selected friends. Though recipients can view your Snaps whenever they like, once they open your Snap they have up to 10 seconds to view it before it self-destructs. Snapchat Stories, on the other hand, take on a new approach. Photos and videos added to your Snapchat Story will live within Snapchat for 24 hours. Then, they’ll disappear.
Snaps will appear in chronological order, with the oldest items residing at the top of your Stories. “Your Story always plays forward, because it makes sense to share moments in the order you experience them,” the company wrote on its blog. You can share Snapchat Stories with a pre-selected group of friends or with everyone. And once you share a Story, Snapchat will keep a running tab of everyone who’s viewed each Snap.
The new Stories feature might be a sign that Snapchat is moving into the microblogging and social networking realms by providing a way for its users to tell cohesive stories on its app.
