18 ‘Famous Footwear’ Illustrations Test: How Well Do You Know Your Pop Culture?

They say you can’t really know a man until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes. Of course, that walk isn’t always possible. Enter art director and multimedia designer Federico Mauro, who hopes to help us identify with some of our favorite pop culture figures based on—you guessed it—their shoes. Using a lifelike yet minimalist approach, his illustrations are a perfect fit. From Michael Jordan’s iconic sneakers to Carrie Bradshaw’s high heels to Marty McFly’s high tops, you could probably guess each of these cultural heavyweights just by seeing a single shoe.

So go ahead and give it a try. Slowly scroll down the page, stop at each shoe, and guess. The answer will be slightly below!

Apparently I like to think differently, which is another way of saying I like to think similarly to Steve Jobs; we’re both entrepreneurial types and have been seen wearing the same version of New Balance sneakers more often than we’d like.

How many did you get right? Which pair of iconic shoes and figures do you identify with most?

David Rawls
Clint Eastwood for me.
Joan Stewart
Steve type shoes in winter and Mark type in summer, comfortable....
Dave Humphrey
It's has to be Jordan for me :)
Charles King
Nice! Al Capone, for all the years I spent in Banking :)
Jeanne Lynn
How cool! The only shoes I wear now are Crocs. I have like 10 different pairs. I even have some Crocs with furry insides for winter! I'm such a nerd. :)
