Animated GIFs, once thought of as just a fancy way to share images online, have become their own art forms in recent times. UK-based artist Mat Lucas dabbles in this art form, working as a graphic designer by day and running a Tumblr art experiment called 89—Aby night.
Lucas told Colossal that many of his GIFs arise from problems he faces while learning new graphics and video applications like Cinema4D, After Effects, and Photoshop. His experimentations often result in surreal geometric shapes that pulsate, rotate, and colorfully contract in mind-bending hypnotic ways.
