Towards the beginning of every spring the groundhog (otherwise known as Punxsutawney Phil) comes out of his hole to evaluate just how much longer old man winter is going to be around. According to folklore, if he sees his shadow upon emerging from his burrow, Punxsutawney Phil will retreat to his burrow to wait out the impending six long weeks of winter.
But this year, you have to wonder how Punxsutawney Phil even found enough light to make it out of his snowy confines!
Groundhog Day 2014
So what did the groundhog see this year? Well, while Phil didn’t offer any Super Bowl predictions, he did sadly see his shadow and predict six more weeks of winter.
