WhatsApp Reaches the 500 Million User Milestone

It is safe to say that Mark Zuckerberg was smart to invest his time and money in the popular global messaging app WhatsApp. The company announced today April 22 that it reached a whopping 500 million users, making it seem like the app is well on its way to one billion users.

This milestone number of users increased from just mid-February, when Facebook acquired WhatsApp with 450 million active users. In the announcement, WhatsApp stated that the number of users have grown fastest in Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia and that all WhatsApp users share more than 700 million photos and 100 million videos each day.

WhatsApp is a mobile messenger app that allows users to exchange messages globally, across all platforms and for no cost. At the rate its growing, WhatsApp is set to reach one billion users faster than the six years it took Facebook to reach that milestone.
