Twitter to Launch Vanity URLs on Vine Starting This Week

Do you ever wish you could easily share your Vine profile with friends without making them open the Vine app or remember the odd characters that make up your public profile URL? Soon you’ll be able to! Twitter has announced the launch of vanity URLs for Vine starting this week.

Beginning Friday at 9 a.m. Pacific Time users with verified Twitter accounts will be able to register for their custom profile URLs, according to CNET. Though Twitter will reserve vanity URLs that match verified Twitter usernames, verified users can claim URLs different from their handles as long as they don’t match the handles of any other verified Twitter accounts.

All other users will be able to register their vanity Vine URLs beginning Monday, December 23. Unlike verified users, though, nonverified accounts get no special treatment: Twitter will not reserve handles of nonverified Twitter accounts as vanity URLs.

This change comes a few weeks after Google+ launched custom URLs on its own network. Similar to vanity URLs on Facebook and Google+, Vine profile URLs will appear as “vine.co/[username],” making it easier to share Vine profiles. “Like your Twitter profile, a vanity URL offers the ability to share profile pages easily,” Twitter wrote in an email to journalists.

When you’re able to register your Vine URL, registration instructions will appear when you log into Vine.
