Kickstarter Wins Best Startup at 2013 Crunchies Awards, Tinder also Heating Up

2013 crunchiesIn a night celebrating startups at the 2013 Crunchies Awards, Kickstarter, a site that helps people and startups crowdsource projects, took down the Best Startup of the Year award. Kickstarter was able to best stiff competition from the likes of Snapchat (who won Best Mobile Application), CloudFlare, Twitter and Uber. The Founder of the Year award went to Arash Ferdowsi and Drew Houston of Dropbox, while Jeff Bezos was coined CEO of the Year after making headlines with his delivery drone vision.

As far as investors go, few can compare to Angel of the Year Chris Sacca and VC of the Year Peter Fenton of Benchmark. But Imgur was able to take down back-to-back Crunchies without ever accepting an investor’s dime as the Best Bootstrapped Startup. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the Best New Startup of 2013 prize went to mobile dating app Tinder. And while people “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” playing Candy Crush, the greatest winner of the night might have been Eric Snowden, who took down the Biggest Social Impact award hours before sites all over the internet, including DashBurst, launched their The Day We Fight Back campaign against NSA spying and Fourth Amendment violations!
