The animation brings van Gogh’s art to life through 56,800 hand-painted frames inspired by the artist’s iconic style and technique that makes use of BreakThru Productions technology that will enable various painters to finish the 80-minute movie in two years. The project is slated for completion in 2015, which will mark the 125th anniversary of van Gogh’s death, which has been reborn as a mystery to some historians in recent years.
No matter what really happened, though, “The truth is, we cannot speak other than by our paintings,” said Vincent van Gogh.
