Loving Vincent: The Story of van Gogh Animated

Are you in love with the artwork of Vincent van Gogh? You’re not alone as this brilliant animation film looks to explore the life of van Gogh as told via his classic paintings and interviews with historical characters closest to him. The plot covers 8 years, 860 paintings, 1026 drawings, 800 letters and 20 people, telling the story of one great man.

The animation brings van Gogh’s art to life through 56,800 hand-painted frames inspired by the artist’s iconic style and technique that makes use of BreakThru Productions technology that will enable various painters to finish the 80-minute movie in two years. The project is slated for completion in 2015, which will mark the 125th anniversary of van Gogh’s death, which has been reborn as a mystery to some historians in recent years.

No matter what really happened, though, “The truth is, we cannot speak other than by our paintings,” said Vincent van Gogh.

Check out the trailer for the upcoming film, the world’s first feature-length painted animation on real canvases, just like the master himself.
