Menu Wants to Help You Unplug From the Internet for Good

Are you tired of maintaining all your pesky internet accounts? By now, each one of us is registered to hundreds of websites for services like shopping, searching, sharing, chatting, reading, and more. That’s a lot of places keeping track of you and your information: no one can blame you if you’d like to disconnect at some point, temporarily or even for good! Heck, there are many times I’ve dreamed of pulling the chord myself, to just disappear into the dark. And then I wake up.

Fortunately for those of you that are looking to get away, there is a new app that can help you quickly dispose of all your unwanted profiles. Called, this truly indispensable site was created by the UK-based developer duo Robb Lewis and Ed Poole, who seem to understand web citizens’ plight as they are overwhelmed by the Internet or have their privacy invaded by too many sites. Lewis wrote on his blog,

After seeing a few tweets about how difficult it can be to delete your Skype account and then hearing that Netflix flat-out won’t delete your details I decided to build is very simple to use: you are presented with a grid-like interface that lists popular web services. Each listing links you directly to the deactivation page on the given network. In addition to providing these links, Lewis and Poole have also done due diligence by figuring out which services can be shut down pain free and which require dreaded communication with a site operator. Sadly, 10 sites won’t let you kill your account without talking to a rep first, while four major sites don’t appear to let you delete your account at all, including Netflix, Steam, Starbucks, and WordPress.

What’s with the draconian removal policies, anyway? Well, the harder it is for you to delete your account, the less likely you are to leave! could become useful for some. Plus, Lewis noted that the site is still a work-in-progress: more links for disconnecting your accounts are coming soon!

Would you enjoy a break from the internet? What sites are you tired of in particular?

I can not imagine being without Internet. I do skip the News, do not like them.

My church has a website setup by a former Pastor that now can't be deleted without a lot of personal details about him being provided to the site operator. He's no longer available so it seems the old site now has eternal life!

Unfortunately many people depend on the internet to make money. Without this I wouldn't be online at all.

Internet is about sharing, socializing, business! It reflects the World we live in! If one decides to "get free", he will finally get caught by the "demons" he runs from!
Jason Wagner
I love the internet but I also love the yeah.

How ironic: a website talking about getting us off the internet.

They even have a chrome extension.

Hypothetically speaking, I would definitely enjoy a break from the internet. Practically speaking, I would be unlikely to go offline for a long period of time, except in the case of a power failure, service outage, etc.

Ha most of us can only dream about this right?
