iOS 7 Inducing Motion Sickness in Users [REPORT]

We knew the thought of iOS 7 made many Apple haters nauseous. But that the latest iOS made Apple lovers double over with dizziness? We never would have guessed! According to a thread on Apple Support Communities, the zooming animations and parallax effects in play while switching apps in iOS 7 are quite headache-inducing.

It appears the bright colors in Jony Ive’s new design are enough to put anyone on a trip. Apple forum user knphoto10 wrote:

I thought I was going crazy today after I updated my phone and I noticed I was feeling queasy every time I used it. Now I see I am not alone! I just used my phone for about 20 minutes and now I feel like I’m going to vomit. There has to be a way to turn this off!”

According to forum members, users experiencing discomfort can reduce motion on their screens by visiting Settings –> General –> Accessibility –> Reduce Motion –> Enable reduce motion, though users with older phones such as the iPhone 4 might not have access to this setting. While reducing motion on iOS 7 will remove unwanted parallax effects, there is no way to remove the zooming animations that appear when switching apps, which appear to be the root of the problem.

It’s not yet apparent if this a serious or widespread problem among iOS 7 users, or whether the allegations are merely a product of people who like to complain online.

iOS 7 was released on September 18 and is designed to bring a cleaner, more useful interface to iOS devices. Shortly after, Apple released two new phones in its lineup, the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c.
