Ellen DeGeneres broke Twitter last night with the most epic selfie taken to date. Featuring Hollywood stars Bradley Cooper, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Meryl Streep and more, the Oscars selfie broke Obama’s retweet record before the show’s telecast was even over. It probably helped that DeGeneres challenged Twitter to make the picture the most retweeted photo in history before taking the picture.

The picture surpassed the number of retweets on Obama’s “Four more years” tweet after his 2012 election victory, which had previously held the record for most retweets.

Twitter’s servers went out for 20 minutes shortly after the picture was tweeted, for which Twitter issued an apology. In spite of the outage, the tweet reached an unprecedented 2 million retweets before midnight and has received over 2.5 million retweets and more than 1 million favorites to date, which quickly became bigger news than the photo itself:
The epic Oscars selfie will be a tough act to follow for any aspiring Twitter record-breakers!
