Colorful Reinterpretations of Smeared Scottish Landscapes [VIDEO]

Inspired by the cloudy Scottish landscape, Glasgow-based artist Scott Naismith draws colorful interpretations of the skies, land, and sea surrounding him.
He makes use of various palettes, knives, and multiple-sized brushes to carve out his love for his native countryside with brilliant streaks of color. Much of his time is spent traveling the area’s many lochs, glens, and isles for his creations. Scott’s multi-layered texture technique leads to an almost 3D-like effect, accentuating his paintings.

Scott describes his work by saying that “after 10 years of painting the Scottish landscape, my recent work now becomes more involved with cloudcover and its effect on light and colour through both its translucent and opaque properties. Clouds are visible masses of water droplets or frozen ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere . They have the ability to refract and reflect, creating an ever changing perception of light which inspires my use of colour.”
