VIDEO: Is Photoshop Remixing the World?
You wouldn’t have to be online for too long these days to spot a photoshop’d image pass through your streams. At this point, it would be hard to deny that Photoshop has completely revolutionized our culture visually. Artists and graphic designers can now use it to create complex imagery that would have been impossible to make even 20 years ago! Photoshop has completely transformed the art of retouching photos, which was once a very labor intensive process into a now artful and simple digital workflow.
Photoshop has also spawned a whole new culture of memes and controversial images. How many times on social media have you seen some amazing photo and thought to yourself it was probably Photoshop’d? Even regular non design-types can leverage the power of Photoshop to quickly add editorial commentary and spread their ideas virally. This has greatly leveled the playing field between larger media publications and regular consumers. Websites like Reddit and Imgur are making a killing off the consumption of altered images and memes.
As this PBS Off Book video suggested:
Photoshop has changed the way we communicate, the way we express ourselves, and the way we view the world and each other.
Have you ever used Photoshop? Do you think it’s changing how we see the world?
