Watch This Spectogram of the Sounds Your Dial-Up Modem Used to Make and Get Ready to Feel Nostalgic [VIDEO]

Remember your AOL days, when you’d hum along to the tune of your dial-up modem connecting to the internet? I do. And while I certainly don’t miss having to leave Live Journal posts halfway written and exit my AIM Chat rooms every time my dad wanted to call for pizza delivery, I feel a little nostalgic toward the days when I used to cook entire meals while waiting for my favorite websites to load. If you know what I’m talking about, this video will bring back a whole lotta memories.

Scotty H over at YouTube Want uploaded a video spectogram of a dial-up modem’s “handshake.” In layman’s terms, that refers to the sounds a dial-up modem makes when it it activates your internet connection, visualized. Here’s a handy diagram of what’s really going on during that dial-up modem song.

Make sure you watch the video full-screen to truly re-experience the power of dial-up internet.
