See the World in Math Formulas in Under 2 Minutes [VIDEO]

It seems the animator we featured on Monday, Xiangjun Shi, is not the only artist who’s gaga about the mechanics that make the world go round. In “Beauty of Mathematics” Paris-based video, motion and graphic design artist duo Yann Pineill and Nicolas Lefaucheux, known collectively as, gracefully demonstrate the math behind everyday happenings like the formula for calculating the area of a snowflake, how text is magnified in a looking glass or what happens when a sugar cube dissolves in a cup of coffee.

By pairing actions we see and do every day with the mathematical formulas behind them, the video aims to demonstrate the beauty of math. The video contains an epigraph explaining its motivation, a quote by philosopher and mathematician Betrand Russell:

Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty — a beauty cold and austere, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music.”
