Arizona’s Wave sandstone formation is famous for its unusual, undulating exterior. Filmmakers and photographers Gavin Heffernan and Harun Mehmedinovic of Sunchaser Pictures captured the Arizona landmark at nightfall in “Wavelight,” a gorgeous timelapse video that takes us on a starry-night hike through the unique rock formation.
Using more than 10,000 still images, Heffernan and Mehmedinovic begin our adventure at sunset and continue it through the night. On any given day, the grooves in the colorful rock create the illusion that the land is moving in waves. In the video, the movement of stars overwhelms the sky and creates a magical backdrop for the rocks. The video, which was created in collaboration with BBC Earth, is one timelapse that will leave you absolutely breathless.
