300: Rise of an Empire Is Coming to Rock Your Socks Off
When 300 was released in 2007, its striking visuals and knack for capturing the essence of Frank Miller’s 1998 comic series won audiences over big time. Before long, people were picking up the movie on Blu-ray and getting up close and personal with the Spartans’ abs, sweat and blood at home on their high definition TVs.
Fast forward seven years, and now we have a sequel/prequel to the cult classic: 300: Rise of an Empire. It’s OK, you can be surprised. After all, [spoiler alert] all of the Spartans’ warriors died in the first film. Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), the most beautiful bad guy in cinema history, is back and this film apparently chronicles his rise to power. Many of the characters are new, like Sullivan Stapleton as our new Greek hero, Themistocles, and Eva Green as Artemisia, his sexy and fierce adversary. But, hey, in this saga the people and the story do not matter nearly as much as the high-octane visuals produced by CGI wizardry. As long as we can watch slow-motion kill sequences and close-ups of beads of sweat pooling on chiseled, half-naked bods, we will be satisfied.
Here are some scenes from the upcoming movie:
The film is scheduled to open on March 7 and will be available in IMAX 3D.
