Upside-Down Portraits Make These Humans Look Like Bizarre Aliens [PHOTOS]
Sometimes the slightest change in perspective can completely transform the way we see. In her photo series entitled “Alienation,” South African photographer Anelia Loubser reminds us of this. She photographed people’s faces upside-down, making them look like bizarre and eerie aliens.
To give the images this extraterrestrial look, Loubser cropped the upside-down images just below the eyes, photographing only the forehead, eyebrows, eyes, and bridge of the nose. In addition, the dark and shadowy lighting of her black-and-white portraits adds even more strangeness and mystery.
The longer you look at the upside-down portraits, the more you see the aliens, proving that Loubser successfully transformed her human subjects into beings from out of this world.
In describing her collection on Behance, Loubser explains:
‘Alienation’ is a collection of portraits that challenges the viewer by using creative tactics based on [Wayne Dyer’s] concept, ‘If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change’… Be introduced to the alienated being inside us all, disconcerting beauty emerges. The work is on the one hand strangely aesthetic, on the other hand mysteriously eerie.
Do you see aliens or people?
