What Would Superheroes and Villains Have Looked Like in the 16th Century? [PHOTOS]

French photographer Sacha Goldberger explored the question of what heroes and villains would have looked like in the 16th century. The answer? They would have looked pretty weird – especially the lovable little Star Wars robot R2D2.

In the series, “Super Flamands,” Goldberger reimagines our favorite heroes and villains as 16th century Flemish portrait models. Amazingly, none of the images are photoshopped, which makes it more incredible that the costumes are consistent with both the superheroes or villains and with clothes from the historical period. While the 16th-century-look gives the heroes somewhat of a regal style, most of the villains just look ridiculous.
