Postcards for Ants: 365 Miniature Paintings, One for Each Day of the Year
“Postcards for Ants” is an ongoing project by Cape Town artist Lorraine Loots, who daily creates a miniature painting. Since January 1, 2013, Loots has been working with paint, brushes and pencils to create extremely detailed, tiny paintings, each one barely larger than a coin.
So far Loots has painted subjects ranging from food and drink to idyllic scenes. Going forward, however, “Postcards for Ants” will focus solely on Cape Town. On her website, Loots explains the new theme of the project:
365 Postcards for Ants is the second phase of a project started on 1 January 2013, which involved me creating a miniature painting every single day for the entire year. In celebration of our city’s designation as World Design Capital 2014, I’ve decided to do it all over again, and this time all the paintings will be Cape Town themed.
