18 of the Finest Long Exposure HDR Photographs Ever [Including a Time-lapse Video]
Trey Ratcliff is a blogger, author and photographer extraordinaire from Austin, Texas who specializes in HDR photography. His photography is focused on travel and adventure themes featuring picturesque locations across the world including the United States, France, Argentina, China, Japan, Russia, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand. Trey’s work has been featured on major news outlets like the BBC, ABC, Fox, CBS and NBC. Ratcliff’s Fourth on Lake Austin photo shown above, a three-exposure HDR, was the first HDR photo to ever hang in the Smithsonian, after winning their annual photography contest. Ratcliff studied computer science and mathematics at Southern Methodist University where he graduated in 1995. He originally got into taking pictures as a hobby, then started exploring HDR (High Dynamic Range Imaging) because he was so frustrated that the landscape photography he captured was off compared to how he would remember the scene. You might also be surprised to learn that Trey was born blind in his right eye which he says likely shaped his interest in photography, especially being able to see photos in high definition. But people have been seeing his photos plenty well ever since. After refining and developing his techniques in what was a relatively obscure HDR method back then, he launched the blog Stuck in Customs in 2005 to feature his work which passed over 50 million photo views in December of 2010.
Trey’s photography is so sharp that if I were to continue to talk about it any longer and further delay you from seeing his collection it would be a crime, so without further ado…
