Next in 2014 Tech: Tell Your Car You’re Craving Pizza

Amidst big announcements from Intel regarding dual Android and Windows devices and conflict mineral free processors, the world leader in pizza delivery and second-largest U.S. auto maker are making quite a life-changing announcement: easy Domino’s ordering is coming soon to Ford’s SYNC in-car connectivity system.

Apparently keeping Domino’s on speed dial isn’t enough. Beginning in mid-2014 Domino’s mobile app users who use Ford SYNC will be able to place their Domino’s Easy Order with just a few simple voice commands, according to CNBC. “This is, no question, one of the coolest in a long list of recent technology innovations for Domino’s,” said Patrick Doyle, Domino’s Pizza president and CEO. For me, garlic crust was a true technological innovation, but to each his own.

How does Domino’s SYNC ordering work? First you’ll need set up Easy Order on dominos.com or on the Domino’s mobile app by entering your favorite food combinations, address and payment information. Then, once this cheesy feature is available later this year, just press the SYNC voice button on your equipped Ford’s steering wheel or audio system and tell your car you want some pizza. SYNC will then use AppLink to place your order through your phone.

Is on demand pizza ordering best innovation to come to for obesity-stricken America, or what? Ford thinks so. “Americans love pizza, and now they can have one ready for carryout or delivery when they are on their way home or heading to a gathering with friends,” said Julius Marchwicki, global product manager for Ford SYNC AppLink, as quoted by CNBC.

SYNC AppLink is available on more than 1 million Ford vehicles.

Domino’s partnership with Ford SYNC is not to be confused with the third party Domino’s pizza button made by the hungry folks at iStrategyLabs.
