REPORT: Nearly 30% of U.S. Adults Have Been Hacked Online. Have You?

These days, you’re either hacking or getting hacked. Did you know that nearly three out of every 10 U.S. adults say one of their social media profiles has been compromised? A new survey by Harris Interactive shows how Americans are facing more security risks as their world becomes increasingly digitally dependent. The poll of 2,089 adults, conducted on behalf of information-technology security company ESET, indicated that most people claim to have experienced some form of breach within the past year!

Cyber criminals have sophisticated methods for hacking into people’s accounts to steal information or funds including phishing scams, multiple decryption techniques and password breaking algorithms. One of the major problems is that almost half of U.S. social media users employ fewer than five passwords across their infinite online accounts, dramatically increasing the vulnerability of each profile. Some steps you can take to stay safe online include securing your router, always reviewing app permissions and reviews for new downloads, making stronger passwords, using a browser extension to manage your passwords, never leaving your device on and alone in public and changing your passwords frequently.

So have you ever been hacked? What steps have you taken to beef up your internet security?
