It doesn’t matter if it’s Halloween or any other regular day of the year, cyber criminals are constantly looking to trick you in an attempt to treat themselves to your information, or even worse, finances. So in celebration of October’s National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Google has been posting a tip each day on how to best stay safe online!

These are the top 5 most popular tips so far according to Google:

1. Use a 2-step verification process to secure your Google account
2. Always secure your router with a password.
3. Avoid downloading and installing malware by always reviewing permissions and reviews before installing a new app.
4. Think before you share
5. Learn the steps to take to remotely delete the data off your smartphone in case it’s lost or stolen.

Other important tips to remember include locking your screens when your devices are laying around idle, always logging out of public or shared computers, never reply to or open suspicious messages (and attachments) and only install applications from trusted sources (as should be determined and displayed by your anti-virus software upon downloading). Google has lots of useful tools in place for common internet browsers and web masters alike.
