Nature’s Canvas: 12 Real Life Portraits of Trees

Mother nature provides a beautiful palette that South Korean-based artist, Myoung Ho Lee, looks to turn into his own personal canvas. Lee captures treescapes by placing gigantic blank canvases behind them. His images combine a professional studio portrait look within real landscapes. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the minimalist canvas background here, though, as it usually takes industrial cranes, ropes and numerous people to rig the setup.

Lee also retouches his tree artwork to erase any trace of his presence saying, “If the mechanics of the artwork were visible, it would be easier for people to recognize the scale and the method. But I want to hide them, to infuse a magical and vague aspect to my work, so that viewers may question and try to find answers themselves.”
