HBO Releases ‘Game of Thrones’ on Google Play

The hit HBO show Game of Thrones, a tale of fantasy based on George R. R. Martin’s novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, is now available on Google Play for Android. Fans can download the past two seasons of the show, choosing to purchase it by episode or season. HBO is selling a few other popular series titles, including The Newsroom and True Blood, among others.

The fact that HBO has finally expanded the availability of its popular shows to other platforms is notable, especially for those without premium HBO television subscriptions. The network relies on paid subscribers to generate its fine programming. By allowing fans to buy shows via iTunes or Google Play, however, HBO is enabling new customers to sidestep the company’s monthly fees, potentially greatly expanding HBO’s audience.
