Twitter adds enlarged pictures to mobile timelinesTwitter is about to make your timeline a lot more visual. The company announced in a recent blog post that it’s bringing pictures and videos shared via Twitter front and center on the timeline.

Now when you see a preview of a Twitpic or Vine video in your Twitter timeline, just tap it to see it in more detail. Photos will seemingly pop out to expose their outer edges, and Vines will play directly within your timelines, no lightboxes or new tabs required. With these updated visual elements, Twitter hopes to bring users closer to what’s happening the world around them. Michael Sippey, vice president of product at Twitter, wrote:

So many of the great moments you share on Twitter are made even better with photos or with videos from Vine. These rich Tweets can bring your followers closer to what’s happening, and make them feel like they are right there with you.”

Twitter’s also made it easier for users to reply, retweet or favorite a tweets: now you can tap directly within tweets to carry out these actions without leaving your timeline. Since all of these new features make it easier to view and interact with content on Twitter, they could have a positive impact on fan engagement with brands on the network.

This update is rolling out to the Twitter for Android and Twitter for iPhone apps, and is also being made available on Twitter.com.
