Facebook Oscar Buzz
The buzz this year about the Academy Awards also reached an all-time high on Facebook. The “Oscars” received three times more mentions this year than in 2012. Les Miserables had the most likes of this year’s top films but it was Django Unchained racking up the most mentions amongst its peers (people who were also likely to have liked Pulp Fiction). While Steven Speilberg’s “Lincoln” didn’t take home Best Picture, it was still a favorite for people ages 45 and up and history buffs (highly connected with the History Channel page). Of course Jennifer Lawrence was the most-talked about nominated actress. Best Picture “Argo” was the most talked about winner of the night, as mentions of the film grew by 2460% during Ben Afflecks acceptance speech, when mentions of the actor then also increased by 23,500%. Other moments of importance included Seth MacFarlan’s impersonation of the Flying Nun, Mark Whalberg’s appearance with Ted, the talking teddy bear and the musical performance by Best Original Song winner Adele.
