Based out of Amsterdam, Gessel said he sees himself as a photography purist:
I try to travel as much as I can. During my travels I am touched and fascinated by the country, the country side and its inhabitants. I see myself as a street photographer, in heart and soul. As I want to capture real life, my photos are not staged and happen spontaneously.”
