Two years ago Ben Nunery lost his wife Ali to a rare form of lung cancer. To pay tribute to his wife’s memory before moving out of their house, Nunery decided to hold a special photo session with their three-year-old daughter Olivia. With the help of Ali’s sister, Melanie Pace, Nunery recreated the wedding photographs he’d shot in that very same house almost five years ago, only this time his daughter filled in for Ali. The resulting photographs are beautifully simple and touching.

In her blog, Pace describes the reasoning behind the photos:

After multiple tries at getting some 3yr pics of Olivia, Uncle Ben had a brilliant idea. Probably the best idea he’s ever had since knowing me. (Other than painting their bathroom a bold color against my sister’s wishes.) He asked me to take pictures of him and Olivia in their empty house just like we did on the day he married Ali, 4.5yrs ago.”

We know that Ali is out there smiling down on her husband and daughter!
