Website Developer – WordPress/PHP/MySQL

DashBurst is a social media and internet technology startup looking to add a skilled programmer to our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will be extremely familiar with social networking platforms and technology.

Interns/Co-ops will be awarded college credits and have the inside track to an exciting full-time position. You will also benefit from being able to work remotely and learning new application programming interfaces in the hot social network sector.

Primary Responsibilities:
– Assist in developing web sites and applications using PHP, CSS, HTML and JavaScript
– Provide remote technical and application support to customers/employees
– Maintain Web applications and sites
– Act as Quality Assurance for customer-facing web applications
– Work with developers and graphical artists creating Web-based interfaces
– Update job knowledge by researching new Web technologies, participating in educational opportunities, etc.
– Assist in server administration duties

A Successful Candidate Will Have:
– Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related degree
– 1+ years of relevant experience
– Must be competent with PHP, CSS, HTML and JavaScript
– Must be able to demonstrate clear ability to create and document code
– Must have strong oral and written communication skills
– Experience in testing across multiple browsers and platforms
– Facebook/Twitter API experience and/or SQL (MySQL) experience with the ability to develop queries is a plus

Graphic Designer & Data Visualist

This position is primarily responsible for creating user-centric Web designs, information graphics and online data visualizations.

The Infographics Designer is a visual storyteller who can examine large, statistical data sets and create clear, compelling online layouts, images and interactive features that can stand on their own or complement research studies. In addition to being a part of the Social & Demographic Trends team, the infographics designer may provide design support and guidance to other research projects. Candidates must be proficient in Adobe CS tools (Photoshop, Illustrator) and have a basic understanding of HTML and CSS.

Primary Responsibilities:
– Work with Graphics Director to design and develop information graphics for online (and, on occasion, print) dissemination
– Work with demographers, survey researchers, economists, programmers and editors to conceptualize and produce data narratives through graphical representation
– Create, query, map and analyze data
– Conceptualize and execute static and interactive graphic features
– Take a lead role in finding new ways to represent and communicate data
– Stay up-to-date with trends in visual communication, especially Web design standards and data visualization and analysis
– Work with internal project stakeholders to define information architecture, navigation, labeling and visual design for online products
– Create test pages, templates and graphical elements for review and iteration

Required Education/Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art or related equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Computer Engineering/Science majors are also welcome
– Experience in graphic design or infographics
– Experience in statistics, data analysis or cartography a plus
– Experience designing for online presentation
– Extensive experience using industry-leading design and mapping software (Photoshop, Illustrator, ArcGIS)
– Strong analytic abilities to capture and illustrate the essence of data for a lay audience
– Must be highly organized with strong attention to detail with ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize and deliver against deadlines with minimal guidance
– Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Adobe Flash and Dreamweaver
– Knowledge of public opinion data mapping and/or database tools (SQL, MS Access, Crystal Reports, SPSS) is a plus
